Eskdale Primary

Eskdale Primary School is a safe, caring, inclusive and accepting school community where children learn to be the best version of themselves by exploring their interests, developing their potential and taking pride in their achievements as they enjoy building the friendships, memories and skills for happiness and success in life. we value Respect, Kindness, Resilience and Striving to Achieve.

Eskdale Primary School is located 60 kilometres east of Wodonga in the picturesque Mitta Valley and is an essential hub of the community. The school has a long and proud history of serving this rural community, which dates back to 1877. Currently 5th generation students attend the school. The school setting in the isolated Mitta Valley of North East Victoria presents opportunities and challenges for the education of its community. Our diverse curriculum provides opportunities that are not normally available in a rural and remote location. A comprehensive Music, Visual Art and Science curriculum are provided through the employment of specialist teachers. In 2018 the school incorporated an extensive STEM program into the curriculum, taught by classroom teachers. Access to a variety of sports has been made available through the Sporting Schools grants. Challenges include the provision of adequate, reliable technological access, the challenges of declining enrolments associated with the demography of a farming community, isolation from multi-cultural Australia and the tyrannies of distance and costs to address isolation issues.

The characteristic that guides the teaching and learning at Eskdale Primary School is the successful relationships between students, parents and staff. Staff continually have high expectations of students. The school strives to be a school community in which learners value their heritage and culture, are positive independent thinkers who are self-motivated and have a love of learning. Eskdale Primary School aims to foster the development of each learner, in a caring environment that provides academic rigor, which supports and promotes independent, critical thinking.

The school has been a positive member of the Upper Murray Learning Community (formerly Tallangatta Cluster) whose vision is to ensure all students within it move along the learning continuum to achieve their full potential. Eskdale Primary School fully supports the Valleys Cluster, within the Upper Murray Learning Community. This involves the five small schools in the cluster and benefits to the education of students has been evident in shared planning, shared Professional Development and shared activities such as camps, group days and excursions and sporting events, involving students across the small schools.

The school’s logo is the Eskdale community’s logo “Community Working Together.” The school continues to receive support from the entire community and values the work that volunteers do in assisting student learning.
Eskdale has a highly committed group of parents who make a significant contribution to the school through their membership of the School Council and the Parents and Friends Association.

In 2019 Eskdale Primary School had a total of 31 students enrolled. There were no EAL (English as a Second Language) students and 1Indigenous student. The school is staffed with 3.2 EFT teaching staff, 0.52 teacher aides/student aides and 0.4 Business Manager.
